Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology

Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology

Overview

A Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology is for those seeking to address mental health solutions at the highest level. Our fully in-person program equips students with skills in psychotherapy, clinical decision-making, research interpretation, and diagnosis using intentional care. Built on the practitioner-scholar model, the program guides students through four years of coursework and supervised clinical training, followed by a year-long, full-time doctoral internship.

A Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology prepares health service psychologists through hands-on, evidence-based practice with integrated training in psychological science, ethical and culturally responsive care, dissertation research and scholarship, and whole-person care based on a scientific model. This five-year program equips you with more than a degree; it prepares you for a lifelong calling of service.

The first cohort begins in the Fall of 2027 with priority applications due January 15th. Applications may be reviewed on a rolling basis, so applying early is to your advantage.

What degree do I need to apply?

A baccalaureate degree in psychology or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. A master's degree is not required. If you have completed prior graduate work, it can be reviewed for transfer credit after admission.

What prerequisite coursework is required?

General Psychology, Developmental Psychology (covering the full lifespan), Research Methods, and Abnormal Psychology.

What does a complete application include?

Your application form and fee, transcripts from all prior coursework, three letters of recommendation from professional supervisors or professors, a CV or resume, a personal essay responding to our prompts, and a personal interview with faculty.

I already hold a master's degree. Can I receive credit for it?

If you have completed prior graduate work, the program will review it course by course after admission and may award transfer credit with an equivalency in level, content, and rigor, up to a maximum of 32 units. This is an individualized review rather than a guaranteed reduction in time, and it does not waive residency, clinical training, or the program's competency requirements.

Not yet. The Psy.D. program is designed to align with the Standards of Accreditation of the American Psychological Association Commission on Accreditation, and the university intends to pursue APA accreditation at the earliest eligible time. ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission.

Licensure follows the doctoral degree, a doctoral internship, postdoctoral supervised experience, and the required examinations. Licensure laws differ by state, and the university cannot guarantee that the program meets the requirements of every jurisdiction, so applicants planning to practice outside California should confirm that state's rules.
