Nonprofit Organization Management, minor

Nonprofit Organization Management, minor

Program Overview

Can you imagine yourself working with community leaders to create new opportunities? Do you want to bring renewal to areas of economic or social impoverishment? If you have dreamed of working for an international development agency, starting a social enterprise in your garage, or working in a church ministry context, this minor could be a good fit for you.

The nonprofit organization management minor can complement a major in business, social work, sociology, theology, and more. You will learn the essentials of management for a nonprofit with classes in accounting, economics, sustainability, leadership, and nonprofit management. You will also be able to choose one specialized course like economic development, organizational behavior, entrepreneurship, and others that will have you discuss innovative solutions to important issues and questions in the nonprofit sector. Completion of this minor program will provide you with the knowledge to succeed in management roles within a nonprofit organization.

Beyond the classroom, you’ll have opportunities to apply your learning in real-world settings through a variety of student-run organizations and hands-on experiences. Whether you choose to develop leadership skills in clubs like the Management and Leadership Club or the Women in Business Club, network with peers in the Social Entrepreneurship Society, or explore international markets through trips and other international opportunities, you’ll find countless ways to expand your skills, connect with future business leaders, build a global mindset, and gain practical insights that prepare you for a meaningful career.

Servant Leadership
Quote
One principle they teach at Point Loma is the servant leadership component, and what that looks like. They ask, ‘How do we model servant leadership in a business setting?

Individual Calling
Quote
Point Loma to me was the prototypical example of making wonderful friends, having wonderful mentors, and doing all those things that not every high schooler thinks about. They think, ‘Is the major going to be good? Am I going to be ready to make money when I graduate?’ Of course, ¹ú²ú¾çÂ鶹¾ç does that, but it also set me on a good trajectory in life to not just have a profession but to be a good individual and find my calling
